Coriander
Coriander is an herb that is part of the parsley family. Used in cooking in all kinds of cultures, this strong tasting herb also has specific medicinal benefits. Various parts of the plant are used for these purposes.
Coriander in cooking
Coriander is perhaps best known as an ingredient that is widely used in Indian, Chinese and Asian cuisines both independently and as an ingredient of some curry powders such as garam masala. The seeds are also sometimes roasted and eaten as a snack. In Scandinavian and Russian cooking coriander seeds are often baked into bread products and it is also widely used in Caribbean and Mexican cooking.
Coriander can also be added to salads, sauces, chutneys, fish, stews, stir fry dishes, meats, seafood, soups and sausages and it is often used as a garnish.
Coriander in medicine
Coriander is held to have a variety of medicinal uses - the herb has high vitamin (A, B and C) and mineral content. Many practitioners of alternative medicines use coriander to help with:
